The Passion for Football in Spain

By Aury Villalona

PictureDuring my travels, I could not help but notice how much the Spanish love football aka soccer. It is not just a game for them; it is a very important part of life. Everywhere I went, from Barcelona to Madrid, I saw how football is something that connects everyone in the country.

One night, I was in a hotel in Barcelona, and I could hear people cheering and making noise because of a football match. The sound was so loud that it felt like the whole city was excited. People were celebrating their team’s victory, and you could feel the energy everywhere. Even though I was not watching the game, the excitement made me understand how much people care about football in Spain.

In every city I visited, I also saw kids playing football in the streets. They were kicking the ball, laughing, and enjoying the game. It was clear that football is not just something to watch on TV; it is something people do every day. Whether it was a game in a park, friends watching a match together, or people celebrating after their team won, football was everywhere.

Even on the bus, I could hear our tour guide and driver talking about their teams. It seemed like everyone had a favorite team, and they loved discussing the games. Also, in every restaurant we went to, there was always a football game on TV, and people were cheering for their teams while they ate. It was clear that football was a big part of their daily life, no matter where they were.
