Tailor-Made for Tourists: Alicante’s Global Appeal

By: Christ J. Desruisseaux

Alicante is undeniably one of Spain’s most tourist-focused cities, and from the moment we arrived, that energy was impossible to miss. In many ways, it reminded me of Miami with its tall palm trees swaying in the breeze, beachfront hotels lining the shore, intricately designed walking paths, and a skyline dotted with sleek, modern high-rises. The city exudes a vibrant blend of old-world charm and contemporary flair. Elegant hotels like the Mellia stand parallel to the gorgeous Mediterranean, creating a visual balance between the modern aesthetic and the coastal aesthetic. Interestingly, this blend extends to the people even in the way they speak, influenced.

Our tour guide, Sonia, shared with us that Alicante is a top destination for travelers from the UK, especially older British tourists in their golden years. After spending just a few hours walking around, it was easy to see why. English was spoken everywhere, more so than in any other Spanish city we visited. From restaurant menus to shopkeepers’ greetings, Alicante seemed tailor-made for international guests.

The culinary experience was equally memorable. One of the standout meals I had was a baked seafood pizza, an unexpected but delicious fusion of flavors. The addition of pineapple chunks on the side added a sweet contrast that elevated the dish beyond what I anticipated.

Overall, Alicante left a strong impression on me. If I were planning a trip purely for relaxation and leisure, this would be my top choice in Spain. Sevilla would follow closely, but Alicante captured the vacation vibe perfectly.

The Alhambra: A Palace Unveiled

By Stephanie Santos

One of the most fascinating moments of my visit to Granada was exploring the Alhambra on a rainy day. The Alhambra is a stunning Moorish palace and fortress in Granada, Spain, famous for its intricate architecture and beautiful gardens. The Palace of the Lions, located within the Alhambra, is renowned for its iconic courtyard with a fountain supported by twelve marble lions, showcasing the luxurious life of the Nasrid sultans. The rain that day added a unique charm to the place, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere. As I walked through the Nasrid Palaces, the gentle sound of raindrops falling on the stone pathways created a soothing backdrop that made the experience feel even more intimate. The rain brought out the vibrant colors of the intricate tile work, and I was captivated by how the wet surfaces reflected the stunning architecture. Each step revealed new perspectives, showcasing the details in the carvings and mosaics that seemed to come alive in the rain. It felt like I had the whole place to myself, with fewer crowds around, allowing me to connect with the history and beauty surrounding me.

In the Generalife gardens, the raindrops clung to the leaves, creating a sparkling effect that was simply enchanting. This rainy day visit to the Alhambra turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my trip, highlighting the beauty of the site in a completely different and captivating light. Even with my soaked clothes and water filled shoes, the Alhambra is a place I would go back to experience everything all over again. The energy of both the scenery and palace gave me chills and a strong connection to both love as well as embracing old beauty.
